Berkeley Street Community Garden Membership Agreement

 

A plot at the Berkeley Street Community Garden is a privilege granted to Member Gardeners who follow Garden Rules and practice Good Garden Citizenship.  Members work together to make the Berkeley Garden a safe and welcoming place for all.  Members who do not follow Garden Rules and practice Good Garden Citizenship will be fined up to $100 and/or forfeit their membership fee and loose their garden plot. 

 

All Member Gardeners will:

 

1.      

1.     Pay all annual membership dues and plot fees promptly. 

In 2009, all payment is due April 4, assessment is $40 per plot, which includes $10 for South    End Lower Roxbury Open Space Land Trust (SELROST) membership and $30 for Berkeley Garden expenses such as insurance, water, and trash disposal.

 

2.     Participate in Spring and Fall Clean Ups each year and contribute 6 hours of work or $100 annually to the upkeep of the garden. 

Participation in bi-weekly garden clean ups or completion of special projects is tracked throughout the garden season. All non-participation fees and other assessments must be paid before membership may be renewed. Consider contributing more; get to know your neighbors and improve your community.

 

3.     Practice Good Garden Citizenship.

a.     Honor the rule of one garden plot per household.   

      All gardeners who join after 1995 qualify for one garden plot per household any one found to be gardening in multilple gardens will loose all gardens.

 

b.    All plots must be cultivated by June 1st. 

      Plots are in high demand; by June 15th, uncultivated plots will be redistributed to the annual wait-list and all fees will be forfeited.  

 

c.     All plots must be kept neat, tidy and well-maintained. 

      All gardeners will keep their plots free of weeds and debris. Gardeners will store a minimum amount of tools, pails, stakes and other garden materials. Gardeners will regularly bag debris for city trash pick-up (Tuesday and Friday AM), keeping only the best plant waste for the compost bins. By Fall Clean Up, gardeners will clean out all dead plants and remove all horizontal trellises.

 

d.    Gardeners will respect the public areas and other gardenersŐ plots. 

      No gardener may enter or cultivate anotherŐs plot without permission.  No gardener will prune, plant or remove any plants, flowers or produce from the GardenŐs public areas except as part of a Berkeley Garden improvement project.  Gardeners will not extend the planting area  along the outside edges of their plot, except in designated planters along the center path.  Gardeners may not hang hoses on the outside of any plot.

 

e.     Gardeners will conserve water and minimize the use of chemicals. 

      Shut off faucets after use.  Mulch plants and avoid watering in the middle of the day to minimize evaporation. Remember we pay for the water.
